There is something very special and different about the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival that makes it such an inclusive event in the broader Mackay – Isaac community, and that is the involvement of the Winchester Foundation. The Winchester Foundation helps many country children experience and participate in the Festival.

Beryl Neilsen established the John & Beryl Neilsen Winchester Foundation in 2012, specifically to create educational opportunities for country children. The Winchester Foundation’s involvement with the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival commenced in 2013 and with the support of many volunteers, 2,334 students and teachers from the Mistake Creek, Kilcummin, Coppabella, Valkyrie, Nebo, MacKenzie River, Clarke Creek, Capricornia School of Distance Education, Charters Towers School of Distance Education, Eungella, Finch Hatton, Gargett, Pinnacle, Mirani, St. Lawrence, Swaynville, Carmila, Koumala, Eton, North Eton, Homebush & Oakenden have attended this wonderful Festival. Beryl is very happy to be on hand to welcome and assist with the children personally over the two days of the Festival.
