Lisa Shanahan is an award winning writer of picture books and fiction for young people. Some of her well-loved books include Gordon’s Got a Snookie, Bear and Chook, and Daddy’s Having a Horse. Her first novel for teenagers, My Big Birkett, was published to critical acclaim in Australia, where it was short-listed for the CBCA Book of the Year for Older Readers and in the United States, where it was published as The Sweet, Terrible, Glorious Year I Truly, Completely Lost It. Her picture book Bear and Chook by the Sea won the CBCA Book of the Year for Early Childhood and her most recent picture book Big Pet Day won the Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award for 5-8 year old children. Her latest novel for younger readers, The Grand, Genius Summer of Henry Hoobler won a Queensland Literary Award.
Lisa is incredibly grateful to be writing for young people and doing what she loves. Her sessions are fun and informative and she relishes the opportunity to interact with students and inspire a love of reading.

(1) Hark! it’s Story Time – An energetic, interactive story time session for younger children, exploring the fun of picture books and where ideas for them come from. Grades Prep-2

(2) Shlurgles, Dragons, Bears and Chooks: The Magic of picture books – a fun, engaging session exploring how a picture book is made from first tiny snatch to final story, including the importance of messy first drafts, editing and the power of visual story. Grades 3-8
