PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING WHITSUNDAY VOICES YOUTH LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2020

In the interest of the health and safety of Mackay and our surrounding community, it is with deep regret that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and in-line with current Government recommendations, we have made the decision to cancel Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival for 2020.

We understand how disappointing this announcement will be to the staff, students, and community of this region, and we would like to take this time to thank you all for your continued support and patronage each year. We will endeavour to use the time over the next year to implement new and exciting possibilities for the future of the Festival so we may continue to delight and surprise you all in the coming years.

To our sponsors, we sincerely thank you for your continued support through this difficult economic climate and look forward to continuing our partnerships next year. We thank you for your investment in the youth of this region and for ensuring the advancement and growth of the Festival for the past 16 years and into the future. We will be contacting you all within the next few weeks to discuss how you would like to move forward from this point.

Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival is a very proud and passionate contributor to the educational journey of the students of the Mackay region. Please be assured that we will be back bigger and better and we look forward to welcoming you all in 2021.

ABOUT THE
FESTIVAL

The Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival is the largest youth literature festival north of the sunshine coast, and a signature event on the Mackay educational calendar. It provides a unique opportunity for students and educators in and around Mackay, to meet and learn from some of Australia’s most acclaimed children and young adult authors, presenters and performers.

Whitsunday Voices attracts participants from as far south as Rockhampton, west to Kilcummin Creek and north from Bowen. Its reach extends to over 65 schools, and approximately 5,000 students, educators and parents attend the Festival each year.

Held in Mackay (Queensland) in July each year, the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival provides students and residents in Mackay and surrounding area, the opportunity to participate in a fun-based educational and cultural event not normally available in a regional centre.

We encourage you to be a part of this very special Festival, and enjoy the experience!
