Kim Michelle Toft is a renowned silk artist and author celebrated worldwide for her unique silk paintings, capturing the mesmerising colour palette of our beautiful ocean. Her lifelong love for marine life inspires both her masterpieces and her award-winning environmental children’s books, including Coral Sea Dreaming, which won the 2018 Australian Wilderness Society Award for Best Non-fiction Children’s Book. Kim invites students to explore the beauty of silk painting. Younger students dive into her interactive performance using puppets, dance, singing and art, based on her picture books. Senior workshop students have the opportunity to create their own hand-painted silks. Join Kim in the underwater world of creativity!

Coral Sea Dreaming (Silk Art Workshop)

Students have the extraordinary opportunity to work with silk artist and illustrator, Kim Michelle Toft. In this 2-hour workshop, students hand sketch and outline with specially formulated gutta gold onto stretched silk, and blend silk dyes, to bring to life mesmerising Coral Sea scenes.
