Dear Teachers, Librarians and Budding Writers,

Whitsunday Voices invites students from the Mackay region and surrounds to submit entries into our Short Story Competition, taking place in term one.  ENTRIES CLOSE AT 4.00PM, 26 APRIL 2024.

Entry Guidelines

***All entries are subject to AI processing and may be disqualified in the event there is evidence of AI production. Students will be asked to declare agreeance on submission.

***Submissions can only be accepted via the link located top left here on our website. This is a 2 step process -

1. Complete the online entry form and press SUBMIT to send

2. You will be prompted to email your story file (WORD OR PDF files only)

Handwritten or scanned entries cannot be accepted due to AI processing. 

Entries are judged by a panel comprising of representatives from the Australian Literacy Educators Association (ALEA).

Story Guidelines  

  1. Typed digital files only (not scanned)

  2. Original work - not AI produced or assisted - Topic must be age-appropriate 

  3. Stories must display title and word count ONLY

  4. Each submission requires a completed entry form via our website link

  5. Within the set word requirements - see table below

  6. A resident of Mackay and surrounding suburbs.

  7. No personal identifying details on your story itself (ie. name/school) 

  8. No limit to the number of entries per student

FILE NAMING: For judging purposes, you must ensure the anonymity of your story file.  You should save your story file as the story title ONLY (no student names), i.e., "BOY SWALLOWS UNIVERSE”.
