The Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival is the largest and only literature festival of its kind north of the Sunshine Coast. It provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and residents in and around Mackay to experience a literary and cultural event not normally available outside major metropolitan centres.

Held in July each year, Whitsunday Voices is a three-day celebration of reading, writing and creative thinking.

The festival has been running since 2004 and every year attracts a growing number of enthusiastic attendees who participate in up to 80 activities, including book talks, workshops, performances and author signings. Whitsunday Voices is renowned as a valuable source of quality, fun-based learning, as well as a cultural experience unmatched in the region.

Attendee feedback is overwhelmingly positive. Each year the festival is highly anticipated, with many teachers using it as an opportunity to tailor their education practices to make the experience more meaningful to their students.

Whitsunday Voices is a non-profit organisation that relies on strategic partnerships with local businesses and ticket sales to deliver a fun, educational, cultural and community-building experience for students across the Mackay region.

"Just a quick email to say 'Thank You' for allowing Beaconsfield State School to attend your wonderful literature festival again this year.

The children look forward to it every year and it never disappoints!. Thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into organising it and the time you take to sort the sessions for us. It is very much appreciated."

Jacinta Wimmer, Head of Curriculum (HOC), Beaconsfield State School, July 20, 2015
